Good Luck to 2010-11 SDSU Men’s Hoops – Forgetting the Dog Days

Good luck SDSU hoops, I’m really vouching for them to make it to (and THRU) anaheim. 2010-2011 was a phenomenal year to be an SDSU hoops fan, more importantly a rewarding year for Aztecs fans supportive of the budding program back in the grueling days of the 80s and 90s, where later in 98-99 the SDSU Athletic program invested to make a big splash in Division I sports, well at least that’s what we thought.

That was the first year of the Steve Fisher era in full effect, I was part of SDSU’s frosh class living in Tenochca Hall, also at the receiving end of tickets given away first hand by our nationally known head coach desperate for attendance, to watch his underachieving men’s basketball program later completing the season without a single conference W. News continued to get better throughout my years there, in which I’ll never forget the recruitment of swingman guard Tony Bland, who coach seemed to have convinced to transfer from the almighty Syracuse Orange to commuter school ST-DSU, to later become part of the 2001-2002 program that won the MWC title and advanced to the tourney for the first time since 1985… lets just say that was their first and last time. Deron William’s Illinois squad ran the Aztec’s out of the gym, a game that made me aware this point guard was due to make some noise in the NBA.

Anyway, this post was meant to wish the SDSU Aztecs the best of luck in this year’s NCAA Tournament, they are in a great position to advance pretty deep. The big prize may seem far fetched, they do have a generous location schedule, and we’ve seen some wild things happen every year. Also wishing the best of luck to the city of San Diego. Although its been more than 6 years living away from San Diego, the city’s excitement can be felt here in the Inland Empire. Ironically, Santa Monica (UCLA) and LA (USC) could feel the heat too: as neither was the best hoops team in Southern Cal.

Aside from our profession, Fish and I do share something in common… yes, I’ve found an LA Laker addicted to cereal like me and my children. Cinnamon Toast Crunch? Fruity Pebbles? Come on Fish, where are the Cocoa Krispies!? The Apple Jacks!? Forget the coffee shop, instead wouldn’t it be neat to hold a late night conversation with Fisher at the breakfast table munching on CTC?

…let me rephrase that, NBA 2K10 10th Anniversary Collector’s Edition… with Kobe Bryant all over it, the main feature, the league owner, the ring owner, but with Take 2 Interactive!? Why not EA, Kobester!? That didn’t stop us from coming up on 2 of these bad boys, apparently only 30,000 released the morning of Tuesday October 6th, 2009. Phil Jackson X Hat – Authentics are Still Out There

Celebrating his 10th coaching championship, Phil Jackson of the Los Angeles Lakers allowed collegefund.org to be the exclusive distributor of the internationally recognized and commemorative “X” cap (designed by his agent), where all proceeds go to the American Indian College Fund per his request according to the LA Times. I’m a big fan of FlexFit, but it probably doesn’t matter because this soon-to-be rare piece of memorabilia will NOT touch anyone’s head under MY roof. These caps are still selling for $25 at collegefund.org. Come up by making it priceless after investing in a case.

Michael Jordan Series Gatorade – 6 Limited Edition Bottles

The beloved Air Jordan, sheduled to enshrine into to the Hall of Fame September 10-12, 2009, instantly turns absolutely anything into “priceless” with his name on it. Came up at our nearby Vons in suburbia, on my weekly household grocery run, and there I caught myself unstacking loads of Gatorade from the others with Mike’s imprint, and looking more of a goof throwing in the vendor’s advertising poster hoping the Vons cashier wouldn’t mind if I politely asked. They probably gave me the poster for already looking like a goof.

Not cool enough to receive 1 of the 23 Gatorade coolers made and designed to celebrate these collectors bottles… but was creative enough to utilize the 12-bottle MJ cardboard carton to accompany the Hall of Fame poster. We really think we made something out of absolutely nothing, spending a Vons Club price of $0.88 a bottle, a whopping $10.56 spent for this complete setup. Gatorade’s website also include descriptive detail of their limited bottles. Now here’s the question: Waste of space? or.. Come up?

2. If someone can calculate the ratio of Lakers fans playing 2K, I’m sure its close if not well beyond 30,000.
3. NBA Live heads, we’re coming up whether you like Kobe or not, because we’re not opening either box (limit 2)…and will continue playing NBA Live. Remember this is only an aggressive attempt.
4. Supply and demand factor, this could be huge.

Game Stop and EB Games (same store right) are currently taking pre-orders, limit 2, available for shipping or pick-up on October 6. Oh yeah… $99.99.
